Webcomics
Webcomics are just what they say they are: Comics on the internet. Often, they become published in book (graphic novel) form, but not all the time. When they are published, it is often way after the series has been published on the web. For example, a webcomic may be on year 4 or 5 of being on the internet before publishing the beginning of the whole thing.
It's a great way to catch up on the beginning of a series, if you're willing to wait, instead of going through their archives.

Some of my favorite webcomics are:
Megatokyo-A comic about two gamers who get stuck in Japan. Great for manga lovers, gamers, and those interested in Japanese culture.
Applegeeks-Kind of violent, but a lot of fun. Two versions-full colored, and an Applegeeks Lite strip version.
Ctrl + Alt + Del-A purely gaming comic. Hilarious, must see for fans of Penny Arcade (see below.)
Penny Arcade-One of the best gaming comics ever.
Webcomic List-Want to try new webcomics? The webcomic list has thousands of webcomics arranged by topic for your time-wasting perusal.
Other features include chat and message boards.
Penny Arcade is particularly well-known for it's annual gaming expos, Penny Arcade Expo (PAX) Prime. The original PAX is hosted in the authors' hometown of Seattle.
They have also started PAX East, held on the East Coast for those gamers who cannot make the trip to Seattle.
Another really great webcomic is the Unshelved series by Biil Barnes and Gene Ambaum. These are particularly great for library staff, and users alike. Published Monday thru Thursday, with a book review by one of the "staff" on Fridays, and reprints from their archives on the weekends.
They have also been collected in several books. They are, in chronological order:
- Unshelved
- What Would Dewey Do?
- Library Mascot Cage Match
- Book Club
- Read Responsibly
- Frequently Asked Questions
- Reader's Advisory
- Large Print
- Too Much Information
Come into the library to pick any of these up, or place requests from home. Enjoy!
